What is Mindfulness?

Sometimes our lives seem to be overwhelmed with work pressures, family responsibilities, endless emails and constant phone and text messages. Mindfulness provides a way to stop, and find some peace and tranquillity in the midst of the chaos, one breath at a time.

Mindfulness Chilterns teaches MBSR, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, which stems from the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, Professor of Medicine Emeritus and founder of the pioneering Center for Mindfulness and Stress Reduction Clinic at the Massachusetts Medical School.

Mindfulness is a set of simple yet powerful meditative practices which help you to break the stress cycle and rediscover your zest for life. It has been proven to help people to cope with a wide range of issues from anxiety attacks to chronic pain. (See our 'Benefits of Mindfulness' page.)

You may wish to learn Mindfulness techniques for your own benefit or, if you are a GP, you may wish to refer a patient who is suffering from stress, anxiety, chronic pain or depression.

Some of the people who come on our courses learn mindfulness skills to help those they care for in their field of work, for example counsellors or hospice nurses. Others come along because they are feeling overwhelmed with difficulties or feel as though they never get a chance to 'switch off' from life. Others just want to regain a sense of joie de vivre.

Mindfulness Chilterns has been running courses in Maidenhead and around Princes Risborough for over three years and has taught over 100 people the skills and benefits of mindfulness. We offer 'Introduction to Mindfulness' Days, short Taster sessions, 8 week Mindfulness courses and Retreat Days.
